Day 3: Christmas Eve in the City of Seoul

We met up with Ryan on Christmas Eve to spend the holiday weekend with him in Seoul. We took the subway from Suwon to Seoul and checked in to our super swanky hotel - complete with a super high tech toilet.

We're in the Myen-dong neighborhood, which is the high-end shopping district. It's starting to feel like Christmas with Christmas pastries and American holiday music blasting everywhere. Michael Buble anyone?

We grabbed chicken bibmibap for lunch before making our way to Namsan hill and the Seoul Tower.

After taking a cable car up to the to the top of the hill, we decided not to pay more to go up the tower since it was so foggy (smoggy) out and we got a decent view from the hilltop.

Apparently the top of Namsan is a popular spot for couples - they attach locks to every surface as a sign of love.

We watched a traditional sword performance, and Kim took a stab (literally ;P) at spearing a bamboo stick.

Of course we couldn't pass up some Christmas photo ops :)

Then we headed to Hongdae for the evening. This is the area near Hongik University in Seoul that's a big party spot for young people. Our first stop was a dog café called Bau House!! You have to buy an overpriced coffee or beer, but then can spend as long as you want petting the dogs!

They had all kinds of dogs, and some had way more energy than others. It was nice and clean for the most part, and the employees picked up the dog's "business" right after it happened. Ryan made friends with a yellow lab that plopped down next to us.

Then it was off to the main strip of Hongdae - unfortunately I didn't get any pictures but it was packed. We grabbed some food - fried seaweed rolls called gimbap and a spicy ramen-dumpling-chicken bowl. We had no idea who it was, but a k-pop star walked right through the restaurant! His name is No Hong-chul, and apparently he was in the Gangnam style video.

We started off with our first soju of the trip, which is basically water downed vodka. Then we head out to a few bars, since apparently Christmas Eve is "party night" here. We finished off the night listening to some Frank Sinatra and losing a mean game of foosball.
