Day 4: Happy Christmas!!

Yesterday was Christmas - my first away from home and definitely not traditional but was still a fun time!

We started the morning off with a trip to Dunkin' Donuts for some Christmas-themed doughnuts before opening the collection of cards and presents we had in the hotel room from our families. We spent the entire morning just relaxing in the room before heading to Itaewon for lunch.

Itaewon is a neighborhood right near a US military base in Seoul, and is known for it's international food. We settled on a place called Lobster Bar, and indulged with some crab nachos and lobster dishes.

Our main destination for the day was Lotte World, a chipmunk themed amusement park and largest indoor theme park in the world. A selfie stick was definitely necessary to get the full experience, so I bought one from a street vendor on the way there.

Lotte world was both overwhelming and amazing at the same time. First of all, it was packed with people and 95% of them were taking a picture at any given moment. There were a ton of indoor rides like a log flume, beluga whale tour, haunted houses, etc.

We decided to start with the biggest ride there, a drop tower in the picture above called Gyro Drop. The ride was terrifying, but the wait in line was the best part. Apparently Christmas is a "couples holiday" for younger Koreans, and literally everyone in line was coupled up. Another trend is for couples to wear matching clothes - we got a kick out of spotting the matching pairs. Non-stop selfies and PDA is also a thing. I loved every second of it.

After the drop tower we went inside to watch the "Happy Christmas" parade hosted by Lotty and Lorry, the chipmunk theme park mascots. It was chaos with people packing in along the parade route.

The parade was fun and hilarious with the cast singing and dancing in lit-up costumes and singing along to the "Happy Christmas" song.

Dinner was a pizza with salad on top, and then back to the hotel to sleep after a long day.
